Santorini, one of the most famous and popular Greek islands, submitted as one of the first plans for transition to the year-round operation model.

Officially launching of the project «Santorini: all year round appointment» is scheduled for the next tourist season, years 2016-2017.

Initiative for year-round reception of tourists is resulted from joint efforts of island authority and local hoteliers who want to attract tourists in the off-season periods aiming at the same time to maintain jobs and fill the revenue base.

Santorini has all necessary conditions to be interesting for tourists throughout the year with its archaeological heritage, unique architecture, unusual geological formations, landscape views of the caldera, local wine and gastronomy, as stated by Anastasios Nicolaos Zorzos, the mayor of the island.

Among the activities contributing to popularization of the island in the low season are plans to open a permanent exhibition of archeological finds, as well as create of an art gallery where local artists and collectors will be able to exhibit their works. In addition, Santorini will hold special events and activities for tourists, such as gastronomic festivals.

According to the authorities of the island, they were able to solve the transport problem. In the winter months, up to five daily flights from Athens will arrive on Santorini, as well as will operate daily ferry service from the port of Piraeus.

Unlike Santorini Crete exhibitions and museums are year round and all the transport problems are solved.
