Unique sculptures

During excavations on Crete, archeologists have found well-preserved sculptures of Apollo and Artemis, according to the website of Greek Ministry of culture. The finds were made during the excavation of the ancient city of Aptera. The archeologists have unearthed two small sculptures depicting deities of ancient Greek mythology, Artemis and Apollo. The first is made of bronze, the second – from marble. They probably adorned one of the villas. Their height with the pedestal is about half a meter, without it – only 35 centimeters.

Scientists believe the findings unique and not only because of the compact size. They were impressed by excellent condition of sculptures. According to researchers they are dated back to the second half of the I century BC. Scientists suggest that the sculptures were made outside Crete and brought to the island for use in a home temple. In addition, such products at the time were luxury goods.
