Picturesque village Monastiraki

The village is on the right as we drive across the island from Ierapetra to Pahia Ammos and at the 10th km. Is a hamlet that today is settlement of Pahia Ammos and called Monastiraki. The name came from a monastery that was there and it was very old and the surrounding houses were cells. It is near at the root of river Ha (the Ha gorge).

Monastiraki one of the most traditional villages of region Lasithi. Stone houses, perfectly adapted to the environment and with spectacular views of the Gulf of Mirabello, Pahia Ammos and the plain of Ierapetra.

Monastiraki combines in a unique way: history with myths, sea and mountain, wild life with quiet holidays with the traditional lifestyle.

It is one of the most picturesque villages of the area. The building that housed traditional tavern “Monastiraki” (tomonastiraki.gr)  is one of the oldest houses of the area dating back to 1820. Agios Nikolaos, Monastiraki, FABRICA GUEST HOUSE (www.vrbo.com/8411650ha)

With love and respect for our past and the beauty of this place, had restored a century-old olive oil press mill and transform it into a friendly guest house. The stone and the wood make it a lovely place to be and the old equipment of the press and the mill gives the impression that you sneak a peek into the past of this rural area.
