Greek will be the second foreign language in Russia

The Ministry of Education and Science of Russia included the Greek language in the school curriculum. The accord was signed by Minister of Education Olga Vasilyeva and Greek Deputy Minister of Education Konstantinos Fotakis.

Starting with the new academic year (in September 2017), Russian students will be able to choose Greek as a second foreign language. Of course, the language will be taught not in all schools. First of all, we are talking about ones in the south of the country which is home to many ethnic Greeks. In addition, chairs of the Greek language will emerge in Russian higher education institutions.

“I am encouraged by the interest of Russians to study Greek language. We have the same civilizational code, common religion and Christian roots”, said the Russian Minister of Education.
