The Knossos palace is among the seven most impressive ancient cities of the world

In 2014, CNN identified seven ancient cities that continue to cause admiration even after disappearing. The existence and power of the great civilizations, which flourished in the past, are acknowledged in the world. The charm of the ruins, of what was left of the great civilizations after so many centuries, still remains impressive.

Seven ancient cities are a reminder to us of the triumph of the civilizations and their destruction, mostly under tragic circumstances.

Knossos was the center of the Minoan civilization. According to mythology, Minos was a son of Zeus and became king of Knossos. The variety of building materials, marble decorations and frescos, that decorate rooms and corridors of  the palace, are impressive. It was a strong civilization with its unique culture. A disaster did not spare also the powerful state.

For centuries, scientists are trying to determinate location of Atlantis, of which the philosopher Plato said that it was a city that had fallen into the sea in one night. There are suggested different locations of Atlantis: Cyprus, South America. But according a version, however, the sunken Atlantis was on Santorini.

That’s how it was. There are 7 lost cities, two of which were in Greece.
