It is a city and municipality located on the coast of the Aegean Sea in the north of Crete. The city is in the middle between Heraklion in the east and Agios Nicolaos in the west (about 15,5 mi.).
Recreation in Hersonissos is suitable for most tourists: beaches for fans to lie on sand and swim in gentle seawater, and pleasures for lovers of water sports.
In Hersonissos, mostly on old streets, which lie slightly further from sea, there are typical Greek taverns serving traditional dishes while the sea-embankment of the resort has a lot of cafes, restaurants and bars suitable for both late breakfast, and romantic dinner in the open air with an evening breeze.
The city earns most revenues from tourism and is very loved by travelers. Being one of the noisiest cities of Crete, it gives enough places not only for adults, but for children too. There is a lot of entertainment for every taste: swimming pools, mini-golf, bars, water sports, carting and much more, including rent of buggies, and scooters. The city has many souvenir shops and small stores. It’s important that their prices are among the most moderate on the island. You can go on a small tourist trip along the main streets near the sea with a possibility to see the vicinity of the city.
The choice of hotels in Hersonissos is also for every taste. There are inexpensive options for thrifty people and expensive hotels, hotels on the shore as well as ones in the heart of party life.
In the middle of the summer Hersonissos turns into a paradise for lovers of nightlife. Bars and clubs in the city center make it move with the music, but you can take refuge from the buzz of the nightlife in cozy coastal cafes, and taverns in old streets.
